Our Story

The Wild Idea People Thought Was Crazy.

We pay a premium for surplus millet grown by elephant-aware farmers in Botswana’s Panhandle, and brew it into beer. In doing so, we turn conservation into business — rewarding farmers for protecting elephant corridors, creating immediate livelihood benefits, and building a local economy of coexistence.

In Botswana’s Panhandle, elephants follow ancient migration routes to the Delta. For farmers, a single night’s raid can wipe out a season’s work. Through Ecoexist Trust, conservationists worked with farmers to adapt — mapping elephant highways, planting away from corridors, and adopting climate-smart practices.

These farmers became known as certified elephant-aware farmers. They go the extra mile to protect elephant corridors, safeguard crops, and ensure this ecosystem remains connected. But extra effort needs reward. For coexistence to last, it must make sense for the families who live it every day.

That answer came to us in the form of millet, the resilient grain of the Delta. That was our raw product and we turned it into beer. By purchasing surplus millet at above-market prices and brewing it into beer, we created more than a product — we created a unique value chain, an economy for coexistence. Elephant-aware farming became opportunity. Conservation became business. Profit became the engine of sustainability.

From the very beginning, it was never just about beer. It was about proving that business can keep the wild alive.
